The central focus of my work is on human conditions: an individual’s relationship with their environment, but most importantly their relationship with themselves. Therefore it is often very personal, the inspiration coming from my own experiences and observations.
In the past I have focused on particular emotions such as happiness, longing and nostalgia. However I have also explored various topics surrounding the concepts of identity and ‘otherness’, or isolation. I am very interested in the psychological mechanisms linked with these themes, and my work is often intended as an exploration of the mind.
I also have a close interest in anatomy, and in my recent work I have often used parts of the human body as a metaphor for psychological states and emotions.
I use a wide range of materials including metals, plastics, latex and plaster, to create pieces which often combine a traditional aspect with a more experimental element. I aim to create a visually compelling experience for the viewer, which still leaves room for discovery.
